(Headquarters: Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture, CEO: Takada Motoi) has partnered with Nasu-Shiobara City, Tochigi Prefecture, to launch a resource-circulating co-creation project that combines apparel with the wine industry, a key resource in the region. The project aims to build a sustainable local economy and create new value by using materials that were previously discarded in the production process of apparel and wine as new resources. Under the “2050 Sustainable Vision Nasu-Shiobara – Environmental Strategy Implementation Declaration”, Nasu-Shiobara City is leading the nation in implementing a circular economy to reduce environmental impact and develop the local economy. Meanwhile, PIZZA DAY has set the mission of “changing the world’s apparel with wool” and has built a
resource-circulating business model that utilizes waste wool. The goals and visions of both parties resonated, and this project was started at the intersection of “urban development centered on city-produced wine” and “challenging environmental issues in apparel.” This project aims to balance the effective use of local resources with the creation of economic added value, and to expand the possibilities of the circular economy at the Nasushio Nuclear Power Plant through the demonstration of a sustainable business model led by the private sector.
■ “From wool to wine and then to dyeing” ── Regional circulation and value chain through co-creation

Raw material: 100% discarded wool. Ingredients: 10% total nitrogen, contains 18 types of amino acids. ※2: Grape pomace generated during the production of the 2024 vintage wine will be provided by Ishii Grape and stored frozen by the city. ※3: Wine made from grapes grown using Lanarin is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2026. When sold, an NFT that can be exchanged for wine will be issued and will be delivered after completion. This project will be centered on the circular economy model developed by PIZZA DAY, and will develop the following initiatives with the support of the Nasu Shiobara City government and the cooperation of grape farmers and co-creation partner Nikke Group. • Waste wool turned into fertilizer and used for grape cultivation Nikke developed an organic fertilizer called “Lanarin” made from recycled waste wool used in circular economy activities with PIZZA DAY. The grape farmer “Ishii Budou” in the Itamuro district of Nasushiobara City is using it to cultivate wine grapes. This will realize a resource cycle from the apparel industry to agriculture, and the wine produced from this cycle is scheduled to be completed next summer. • Converting grape pomace into dyes and developing them into dyed products The grape pomace generated during wine production is recycled into dyes using the “remaining dyeing” technique by dyeing processing company “Tsuyakin (Nikke Group)”. It is reborn as dyed products such as T-shirts and towels. This initiative to convert previously unused local waste into new value is the first challenge for PIZZA DAY and Nasu Shiobara City, and is a symbol of this project as a unique and meaningful initiative that makes use of the appeal of local resources. • A “circulation set” that combines “arteries and veins” products will be sold A “circulation set” that combines the arteries (wool products) and veins (wine and dyed products) of the circular economy will be sold in July of this year. In addition to being environmentally friendly, it is designed to allow purchasers to experience the concept of the circular economy itself, aiming to provide new value in both terms of gaining awareness and promoting understanding. • “Wine exchange rights sales” using NFT The “circulation set” includes wine that will be completed next summer, and purchasers will be provided with an NFT that grants “the right to exchange for wine”. During the period until completion, the design allows you to enjoy the growth of grapes and the brewing process through experience programs, providing a new purchasing experience of “enjoying the waiting time”. This initiative aims to create a new purchasing experience by utilizing NFT to integrate product
distribution and experience value. ■A new form of economic activity that aims to balance the local economy and environmental issues Circular economy is not just an environmental measure, it is a sustainable economic activity itself. In this project, private businesses such as PIZZA DAY are the main players, and while receiving support from the government, they pursue profitability and continuity as a unique business model. Even after the project ends, we aim to develop it as an economic activity that continues to circulate value by becoming independent in a way that is rooted in the local community. Furthermore, by implementing a circulation model based on the “city’s unique perspective” that makes use of Nasu-Shiobara’s characteristics and regional identity, it will also contribute to the creation of a unique economic structure that is not found in other regions.
■Collaborating Partners Ishii Grape (Nasushiobara City, Tochigi Prefecture) Grape farm in Itamuro district. They grow grapes for wine and eating fresh, and also sell wine brewed by contract. Nikke Group (Chuo-ku, Osaka) Japan’s largest woolen textile manufacturer, with a history of over 120 years since its founding. Collaborating with PIZZA DAY on joint product development and circular economy using discarded wool. Yasukin Co., Ltd. (Ogaki City, Gifu Prefecture) A dyeing and finishing company of the Nikke Group that develops environmentally friendly dyed products using its unique dyeing technology
“Nokori-zome,” which converts plant residues into dyes. ■About PIZZA DAY PIZZA DAY is a lifewear brand born in Bishu, one of the world’s three major wool producing regions. In addition to the circular economy system that reuses scraps, cutting waste, and worn-out products generated during the production process as fertilizer, we propose new solutions to environmental issues in the apparel industry through experience design that utilizes web3’s technology and culture.
