Inspired by the gradual transition of seasonal colors from summer to fall, this collection combines abstract floral prints with vibrant, organic stripes. It offers a playful new look that reflects the beauty of the changing seasons of flowers. First Drop features summer accent colors such as fresh sky blue and soft lavender, evoking a joyous end to summer. The late summer mood gradually transitions to vibrant reds and cayenne, rich purples, cocoa browns and midnight blues. Soft shades of nature such as pale yellow, hay and grass act as neutral base tones to complement the bold colors. Print designer Aino-Maija Metsola’s delicate yet powerful floral prints depict the colors fading from wilting flowers, leaving a gradient effect on the textile. This beauty is achieved by using a halftone printing technique to create an image with a dot pattern. Other notable prints this season include Jokuraita by Antti Kalevi, Puhveli by Maija Isola, and timeless classics such as Unikko by Maija Isola and Piccolo by Vuokko Eskolin-Nurmesniemi. The collection features shirts and dresses in iconic cotton poplin with abstract floral prints and bold stripes. As the season progresses, more textured fabrics such as jacquard, denim and merino wool are introduced as knitted dresses, outerwear and sets to mark the start of the new season. Dresses and skirts in the collection come in both mini and maxi lengths, and a new denim mini dress is also introduced. Marimekko Maridenim also has new colors, such as washed gray, and new designs using Marimekko’s logo font. The Maridenim collection will be further enhanced with the use of denim material for the Karla bag series, inspired by Marimekko’s classic candy wrapping.
