SHEIN further strengthens product safety and quality control
ROADGET BUSINESS PTE. LTD. Press release: June 26, 2025 SHEIN further strengthens product safety and quality control system Aiming to test 2.5 million products by 2025 SHEIN Group ( SHEIN has announced new goals and measures to further strengthen its product compliance and quality control system. This will further advance the company’s commitment to product safety and quality and strengthen compliance with legal obligations in each market. SHEIN is strengthening its product testing by further strengthening its collaboration with 15 internationally recognized product testing organizations. By 2025, the company plans to increase the number of product safety and quality tests to 2.5 million per year, a 25% increase from the previous year. Investments in compliance-related initiatives are expected to reach USD 15 million per year. SHEIN’s multi-layered product safety and quality management system is built on SHEIN’s own safety standards while complying with relevant national laws and regulations (e.g., the US Consumer Product Safety Act (CPSA), the EU General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR), etc.) and industry standards. This quality management system is implemented throughout the pre-sale, sales, and post-sale phases, and is continuously monitored to ensure that products always meet the appropriate standards. In 2025, we plan to make strategic investments and strengthen and expand our initiatives to further improve product visibility and compliance management. Standards of Conduct and Policy All suppliers, including SHEIN’s manufacturing partners and
third-party sellers, are required to comply with relevant product safety laws and regulations, as well as SHEIN’s management standards and policies, such as SHEIN’s “Restricted Substances List (RSL)” and Supplier Code of Conduct. SHEIN maintains a library of “approved” materials (hereinafter “Material Library”) that meet the policies and standards and is available to all SHEIN designers. The requirements have now been further strengthened, and the material library now includes not only fabrics, but also trims and accessories that have passed apparel compliance testing. To be included in the library, materials must meet SHEIN’s standards and comply with chemical safety standards. ◆Fabric Management High-risk fabrics, such as polyurethane (PU), must pass SHEIN’s RSL (Restricted Chemicals) testing before they can be included in the material library. Additionally, starting in April 2025, all fabrics that may be used in SHEIN branded children’s apparel will have to be tested for chemical composition and
flammability upon registration. ◆Decorative and Accessory Management With the expansion of our material library, we have also implemented additional compliance tracking for end-product accessories, providing greater control over SHEIN branded apparel. Suppliers who wish to register their accessories must submit test reports demonstrating compliance with SHEIN’s RSL and other relevant standards. SHEIN’s dedicated compliance team monitors legislation around the world and regularly updates the company’s standards and policies. Document and Certification Review SHEIN has a strict policy that requires suppliers to submit certificates for certain regulated categories, such as electronics, children’s toys and products, baby products, cosmetics, medical devices, light industrial products, personal protective equipment, and textiles, for SHEIN’s system checks and manual review. By May 2025, SHEIN will further strengthen compliance management and increase the frequency of checking test reports, labels, certification documents such as RoHS (EU) and FCC (US) for all sellers of
high-voltage electronic products. Monitoring and Product Testing SHEIN works with world-leading third-party testing laboratories to conduct safety testing, including chemical testing, throughout the entire sales cycle of its products. In 2025, we will expand and deepen our partnerships with 15 internationally recognized testing organizations, including Bureau Veritas, Intertek, QIMA, SGS and TUV SUD, and aim to increase the number of tests from 2 million in 2024 to 2.5 million by the end of 2025. Joy Jia, deputy director of the China E-commerce Team at testing agency SGS, said, “SHEIN is a long-term partner of SGS and has been working with us since 2021 to strengthen product compliance management. Our cooperation has expanded year by year, and we have conducted quality inspections of textiles, toys and accessories. We hope to continue to deepen our collaboration with SHEIN to further improve compliance and quality in our target markets, thereby winning the trust of more consumers.” As part of its commitment to
transparency and increased regulatory engagement in each market, SHEIN will voluntarily report to regulatory authorities any non-compliant products found that pose significant safety risks, such as those listed under the CPSA and GPSR. Evaluation according to changing circumstances SHEIN evaluates supplier performance in multiple aspects, such as product test pass rate and negative feedback rate. For suppliers who are found to be non-compliant or in violation of policies, SHEIN will take action depending on the severity of the case, such as removing the product from the site, reducing supplier points, restricting reorders, and even terminating the contract. If a complaint is made about a product, the product will be temporarily removed from the site during the investigation period. Since the launch of its global marketplace, SHEIN Marketplace, SHEIN has terminated transactions with over 540 sellers who did not meet compliance requirements. SHEIN is committed to providing safe and reliable products for all products, both SHEIN branded products and products sold by sellers on the Marketplace. Chris Pan, Global Compliance Officer at SHEIN, said, “Product safety is our promise to our customers and an ongoing commitment to SHEIN as a responsible global company. As our product lineup expands, we are committed to building systems and partnerships to strengthen our product compliance posture. It’s a big challenge, but we can and will overcome it.” ■Introducing SHEIN SHEIN is a global online fashion and lifestyle brand.
