Specifically, the company aims to reduce Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 52% compared to fiscal 2019 by fiscal 2030, reduce Scope 3 (categories 1, 3, 4, and 12) by 30%, and achieve net zero Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by fiscal 2050. Modeling our own factories to reduce GHG emissions As part of our supply chain-wide efforts to achieve Scope 3 targets, we regularly inspect equipment at our own sewing factories, Sanyo Sewing Aomori Factory and Fukushima Factory, and quantitatively manage GHG emissions. We share issues with factory managers, develop GHG emission reduction plans, and monitor the results while working to model our own factories as ones that can contribute to solving environmental issues. In 2023, we will hold an information sharing meeting for all factory employees, and work together with the field to promote further energy conservation that leads to minimizing costs and resource use, improving business efficiency, digitalization, switching to a zero CO2 emission coefficient plan for electricity, and efforts to reduce waste. Initiatives across the supply chain We aim to create a sustainable system that will lead to problem solving by verifying the results of activities in modeling our own factories and sharing information throughout the supply chain. In addition, we evaluate our suppliers through third-party audits based on the “SANYO Code of Conduct.” This evaluation includes operations that comply with environmental laws and REACH, and cooperation in GHG reduction. Based on the results of the evaluation, we also provide guidance on improvements to raise the company to rank A, which is our own unique standard. Climate change countermeasures in collaboration with industry groups, etc. Our company has received certification and support for the Ministry of the Environment’s “FY2023 Commissioned Project to Promote the Calculation and Display of Greenhouse Gas Emissions Throughout the Life Cycle of Products and Services,” and as a representative company of the Japan Fashion Apparel Industry Council (JAFIC), we participated in the formulation of “Industry-specific Commentary on the Basic Guidelines for Calculation Methods for Greenhouse Gas Emissions Throughout the Supply Chain (Fashion Industry).” We are also participating in the following Ministry of the Environment project in FY2024. We are also participating in CicroMate, a new resource circulation platform for apparel logistics. CicroMate is a resource circulation platform that utilizes apparel delivery logistics and transportation networks to efficiently collect and recycle waste plastic using integrated arterial and venous logistics. This business aims to collect plastic bags for product packaging such as “hanger cover vinyl” and “shirt, knit, and cut-and-sew vinyl” that are no longer needed and are discarded at apparel companies’ logistics warehouses and stores, and use them as material for new hanger cover vinyl, aiming for horizontal recycling. Through these efforts, Sanyo Shokai will promote climate change measures throughout the supply chain and contribute to the realization of a sustainable society. Going forward, we will continue to promote our business with the goal of contributing to the realization of a sustainable society as a company.
