They have developed the BLACK series, a special everyday wear that focuses on the beauty born from traditional Japanese techniques. This time, we are collaborating with Kuno Dye Factory, which has been in business for five generations since its founding in 1912 and continues to challenge itself with new expressions while supporting the traditional technique of Arimatsu Shibori. At the core of Kuno Dye Factory is the balance of “protection” and “creation.” The
fifth-generation owner, Hiroaki Kuno, is promoting the charm of traditional Arimatsu tie-dyeing to the world, while also focusing on research and development of new Arimatsu tie-dyeing techniques. While valuing tradition, he is always challenging himself with new materials, and we have decided to collaborate with Kuno Dye Factory to show our respect for their attitude of connecting to the future. The Arimatsu Shibori technique, which is said to have more than 1,000 variations including derivatives, has been applied to Plantation’s popular products “YOORYUU” and “BIZEN WAVE” and will be sold at select stores only from Friday, July 18th.

During the Edo period, it was a specialty of the Owari domain and was a popular souvenir for travelers traveling along the Tokaido, making it known as the most famous product on the road, and its appearance is depicted in ukiyo-e art. Arimatsu Shibori has a simple technique of simply wrapping the base with thread, as well as various other techniques that skillfully combine the three techniques of tying, sewing, and clamping. When these techniques are applied and the fabric is dyed, the areas that were not dyed due to the thread or board being removed will appear as a pattern. As craftsmen fold, wrap, sew, tie, clamp, and dye each piece by hand, no two pieces are exactly alike, and each one has a unique pattern. YOORYUU: The Takashima region of Shiga Prefecture, located in the northwestern part of Shiga Prefecture, has been famous since the Edo period as a producer of “Cotton Willow”, collectively known as “Takashima Chijimi”, and “Cotton Crepe”, a cotton fabric for thin clothing. Plantation’s original material, “YOORYUU”, is a horizontal stripe version of this Takashima Chijimi fabric. Compared to regular plain weave, Takashima Chijimi is made with a strong twisted weft thread, which creates vertical ripples. This ripple creates a certain amount of space between the skin and the fabric, giving it a smooth, refreshing feel that allows it to separate from the skin, making it a popular material for spring and summer clothing in Japan, where temperatures are high and humidity levels are high. BIZEN: “BIZEN” is a fabric made in a factory and loom in Okayama, a denim production area, and is characterized by a soft uneven texture that is expressed by the weaving structure rather than heat processing. The wavy fabric is not flat, so there is less contact with the skin, and it is light to wear and gently conforms to the body, making it a suitable material for the coming season. At the plantation, we create many textiles from the twisting of the yarn to the weaving and processing. These
collaborations with the production areas are important to the plantation. Plantation Official Online Store
