Collective Horology, which started in 2018 as a community centered around the creation of collaborative watches, has rapidly grown into a well-known watch retailer that carries products from independent manufacturers. In addition to its retail business, the company continues to release collaborative watches and hosts the popular US podcast Openwork: A Look Inside the Watch Industry. With a focus on customer service and customer experience, Collective Horology is popular for its
independent watchmaking and collaborations, attracting watch lovers from all over the world. Early in the project, a limited edition Zenith Chronomaster El Primero C.01 x Collective, with its sharp, minimalist aesthetic, was created in collaboration with Zenith. This is the 10th installment of Collective Horology and Zenith’s
collaboration series, reinterpreting a modern icon of watchmaking.

The excellent robustness and durability of the original model has been translated into a more contemporary design and is equipped with the latest generation of the El Primero self-winding in-house movement. The DEFY Skyline C.X Edition has a faceted steel case and an interchangeable integrated steel bracelet with a matte sandblasted finish, and only the sides of the dodecagonal bezel are polished. Like the edges of the bezel, the sides of the case back are also polished. These finishes are reminiscent of industrial design, giving the timepiece a bold yet understated look. The design theme of functionality and simplicity is also reflected in the redesigned dial layout for the DEFY Skyline C.X Edition. The matte silver-gray color of the dial depicts the signature starry sky of the Defy Skyline, giving it a more three-dimensional feel. This gradation effect is achieved by engraving a four-dot star that is deeper in the center of the dial and gradually becomes shallower towards the edge. The world’s only 1/10 second complication is located at 6 o’clock instead of the 9 o’clock position (opposite the date window at 3 o’clock) on the standard Defy Skyline model. The date window has been completely eliminated in favor of balance and symmetry in the exterior. In the 1/10 second display, the tip of the second hand and the “10” mark are colored orange for high visibility, reflecting inspiration from 20th century industrial design.

The 1/10 display at 6 o’clock is directly driven by a 5Hz escapement. The movement has a power reserve of approximately 55 hours when fully wound and is equipped with a seconds hand stop mechanism for precise time setting. In addition to the steel bracelet, the DEFY Skyline C.X Edition comes with a textured orange rubber strap with a steel folding clasp, complementing the delicate orange accents on the dial. The quick strap change mechanism on the case back allows you to easily change the bracelet and strap without using tools. “Defy Skyline C.X Edition” will be sold in a limited edition of 200 pieces at Collective Horology, Zenith Boutique, and Zenith Online Boutique.
