Osaka/Kansai Expo. At the ceremony, Hiroyuki Ishiwa, Secretary General of the 2025 Japan World Expo Association, and Jun Miyaji, President and CEO of Cartier Japan, cut the tape and celebrated the opening with the official mascot, Myak Myak. Jun Miyaji, President & CEO of Cartier Japan, said: “Women’s Pavilion in collaboration with Cartier” Two years have passed since we announced that we would be exhibiting at the Women’s Pavilion, and we are very pleased to be able to introduce the Women’s Pavilion to everyone. From Expo 2020 Dubai to Expo 2025 Osaka/Kansai, the Women’s Pavilion’s mission is to build a more just and lasting future, one that resonates across generations. What can each individual do to create a bright future together, regardless of gender? My experience at Expo 2020 Dubai changed my mindset. We hope that the experience at the Women’s Pavilion will give many people the opportunity to feel, think, and take action. ” The Women’s Pavilion in collaboration with Cartier focuses on the visionaries who shape the future and the essential role of women in driving global development, advancing equality and ushering in new generations. In line with the theme of the Expo, the concept is “Living together, moving toward a brighter future.” We highlight the power of change and the
perspectives and potential of women in shaping a better future. The Women’s Pavilion was designed by architect Yuko Nagayama and serves as a symbolic bridge between tradition and modernity. The façade adopted for the Japan Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai and inspired by the traditional Japanese woodworking technique Kumiko was reused for the Women’s Pavilion. It embodies Cartier’s unwavering commitment to sustainability and craftsmanship. Visitors to the Women’s Pavilion are greeted by a space curated by world-renowned artist Ez Devlin. With his forward-thinking approach, Ez Devlin sees the Expo as a “unique collection of musical instruments,” and describes it as “a place where each pavilion serves as a different instrument to send a message on the world stage over a six-month period.” Based on this idea, the Women’s Pavilion aims to shift the perspective on gender equality to the core. At the pavilion, guests will be asked to provide their names, and their identities will become part of the story. Visitors will be told the stories of three women of different nationalities and ages, encouraging reflection and ultimately linking their experiences to broader, universal issues in the world. This immersive experience bridges individual commitment and a call to collective action, amplifying the Women’s Pavilion’s message far beyond physical and temporal boundaries. The “WA” space will be set up on the second floor of the pavilion as a place for all people to think together and have continuous dialogue, regardless of gender, race, age, or ability. Here, we will exchange opinions through lectures, panel discussions, and exhibitions on six important themes: “The Big Earth,” “Business and Technology,” “Education and Policy,” “Arts and Culture,” “Philanthropy,” and “Role and Identity.” Together with visionary leaders, activists, and experts, we will communicate information that will inspire people to take action. More than 150 events are scheduled to be held in the “WA” space, and details will be released on the website in due course. All events can be reserved in advance and entered into a lottery through the EXPO 2025 VISITORS website (https://www.expovisitors.expo2025.or.jp/events), and applications for some events can also be made through the Women’s Pavilion official website (https://register.cartier.com/ja/wa-2025).
