This will expand the implementation area to a total of 15
municipalities, covering 48% of Okinawa Prefecture’s population. Additionally, today, April 9th ​​(Wednesday), we held a press conference in Urasoe City, Okinawa Prefecture, and received greetings from Urasoe Mayor Tetsuji Matsumoto and Urasoe City Superintendent Ken Mekaru. What is the Elementary School Student Academic Support Project? OWNDAYS has been implementing an academic support project for elementary school students since 2022 with the aim of preventing children from falling behind in learning due to vision loss and providing a better learning environment. In this project, children whose unaided visual acuity has been graded as C or D in health examinations at elementary schools in each local government are provided free of charge with glasses that use resin frames that are allergy- and safety-friendly and thin aspherical lenses (1.60 to 1.74) made by famous domestic manufacturers. Children receiving support can receive glasses once a year until they graduate from elementary school. Since its launch in 2022, the number of users has increased year by year, with 503 elementary school students in 2022, 1,085 in 2023, and 2,776 elementary school students in 2024 using this project and receiving glasses appropriate for their eyesight.
