Upcycling The fabrics for our products are made from unused kimono and obi. We value what we currently have and create new value. 2. Disclosure of production background (process) A video of the process from fabric to making a pair of shoes is available on the Relier81 official website. Given the current situation in the shoe industry, where many companies are suffering from a lack of successors due to the aging of their craftsmen, we would like people to take an interest in the production background in order to ensure the continuation of the industry. I also want to convey the technology and wonders of Japanese manufacturing. 3. Creation of a new kimono culture Nowadays, there are fewer
opportunities to wear kimono, so we are proposing different forms so that people can incorporate it into everyday life. Our hope is that Relier81’s shoes will give people an opportunity to experience the traditional Japanese kimono and obi. 4. Inheritance to the next generation Tajiri, the brand’s representative, is also working on industry-academia collaborations with universities and vocational schools in Kyoto, and holds classes and lectures to convey the wonders of traditional culture to the next generation. 5. Challenge We, the Odawara Sanitation Group, handle everything from household waste to industrial waste, human waste, sewerage maintenance, etc. We aim to create a sustainable society through the maintenance and management of daily life infrastructure. As the next stage of waste collection, processing, and recycling, we are also taking on the challenge of upcycling.
