Together with Ishizaka Sangyo Co., Ltd. and the Saitama Prefectural Industrial Promotion Corporation, we have successfully converted used sublimation transfer paper into RPF (Refuse Derived Paper and Plastics Densified Fuel), and through this industry-first initiative, we will contribute to the realization of a circular economy.
ADP Co., Ltd. (Head office: Sumida-ku, Tokyo, President and CEO: Kiyoaki Mitsui, hereinafter referred to as ADP) is a subsidiary of Ishizaka Sangyo Co., Ltd. (Head office: Miyoshi-cho, Saitama Prefecture, Representative Director: Noriko Ishizaka, hereinafter referred to as Ishizaka Sangyo) and Saitama Prefectural Industrial Promotion Corporation (Chairman: Akitomo). In collaboration with Kazuhiro and Saitama Prefectural Industrial Promotion Corporation, we succeeded in solving the problem of used sublimation transfer paper, which is difficult to materially recycle, by converting it into RPF for the first time in the apparel printing industry. [What is RPF] “RPF” is an abbreviation for Refuse Derived Paper and Plastics Densified Fuel, and it is a solid fuel that is mainly made from waste paper and waste plastics, which are difficult to materially recycle, from industrial waste. The RPF produced by Ishizaka Sangyo has stable quality and contains few impurities, so there is almost no risk of boiler corrosion or dioxin generation due to chlorine gas generation. Furthermore, as an alternative to fossil fuels such as coal, it has high thermal efficiency and can control the amount of heat, and is used as renewable energy by major paper companies. [Problems with sublimation transfer printing] Often used for colorful prints on sports uniforms and apparel, sublimation transfer printing is a method of printing on special sublimation transfer paper using an inkjet printer, then applying heat and pressure to polyester fibers to vaporize the ink and dye it. The used sublimation transfer paper generated at this time cannot be used as recycled paper because the ink remains on the paper, and if it is accidentally mixed in with waste paper collection, it will be a very difficult problem for recycled paper processing companies. Specifically, if one A4 size sheet of sublimation transfer paper is mixed in, approximately 100 tons of paper waste will be generated. Until now, large amounts of white paperboard have been disposed of as waste paper at paper mills, but if waste paper is collected without being aware of this problem, it will be difficult to detect and it will be necessary to remove it at the discharge stage. Furthermore, when ordinary households purchase products imported from overseas, used sublimation transfer paper is sometimes used as padding to prevent the product from losing its shape, and in such cases, it may be collected as waste paper. 【Solution】 In order to solve this problem with used sublimation transfer paper, we received advice from the Saitama Prefectural Industrial Promotion Corporation and collaborated with Ishizaka Sangyo, which specializes in converting industrial waste into renewable energy.We are now able to contribute to the realization of a circular economy by converting used sublimation transfer paper into RPF, which can be used as renewable energy by manufacturers of sublimation transfer paper, rather than simply incinerating it, ahead of the apparel printing industry.
