Why not try making your one-of-a-kind original ring using the Nantucket basket technique, the most beautiful basket in the world? ■ The New England Nantucket Basket Association will hold a craft experience event for beginners, “First Nantucket Ring 2025,” from June 15 to August 31, 2025 at certified classrooms nationwide. At this event, you can try your hand at making a cute fingertip-sized ring while experiencing the delicate weaving techniques using basic Nantucket basket techniques. It takes about 30 to 50 minutes to make, making it easy to participate, and the price is 2,200 yen (tax and materials included). Nantucket baskets, each made by hand, are known as the “world’s most beautiful baskets,” and were once presented to Queen Elizabeth, as well as loved by many celebrities, including Jacqueline Kennedy and Audrey Hepburn. The New England Nantucket Basket Association has continued to convey to Japan the deep charm of this basket and the beauty of handicrafts passed down through generations.
