We took advantage of that experience to try new things, finding out what we can do and what we’re not good at. I feel that this technology has room to evolve even further. I would like to continue working with them to create things with textures that we have seen before but never experienced before. ■About the 3D melt-blowing technology “Melooop” “Melooop” is a new technology developed by Wacoal’s Human Science Research and Development Center that uses the melt-blowing method, a method of making nonwoven fabric, to create 3D objects. The
melt-blowing method involves melting the raw resin with heat, extruding it from a spinning nozzle, and stretching it with high-speed hot air to turn it into ultra-fine fibers, and at the same time, the fibers are thermally fused together to create nonwoven fabric without the use of adhesives. 1. It is easy to recycle because it is a mono-material (single material) such as polyurethane and polylactic acid. 2. Because the fibers are sprayed onto the material to form a three-dimensional object, there is little waste material. 3. Because the material can be colored by adding dyes or pigments, there is no need for a dyeing process. 4. Because the material is sprayed onto a mold created with a 3D printer, no mold is required, making it suitable for small-lot production. ■About Wacoal Human Science Research and Development Center The Wacoal Human Science Research and Development Center is a research institute owned by Wacoal,
established in 1964, and scientifically studies the body from the perspectives of “beauty,” “comfort,” and “health.” The data
accumulated here for about 60 years is the foundation of our business, and is used not only for new product development, but also as a starting point for improving quality and expanding our business areas. In recent years, we have been proposing “attractive product and service concepts” that meet the needs and insights of consumers by unraveling the relationship between the body and the mind, and conducting research and development of new materials and technologies. ■Collaboration with “doublet” Wacoal Corporation was selected for the “Future Fashion Human Resources Development Program” sponsored by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry in 2024, and worked on producing fashion items using its unique three-dimensional molding technology “Melooop”. To explore the possibility of using this technology for purposes other than innerwear, we collaborated with the fashion brand “doublet” to create three pouches and bags, which were unveiled at the Fall/Winter 2025 Paris Fashion Week. This is the second time we have collaborated on the Spring/Summer 2026 Paris Fashion Week, following our last collaboration.
