For more than a century, Oak Bluffs has been known as a seaside haven for the Black community, loved by generations of long-time residents and their families who built many charming cottages in the town throughout the seasons, as well as those who spend their summers at the beach. As part of that story, Ralph Lauren has extended its ongoing partnership with Morehouse College and Spelman College beyond the campus. And weaving products into the collection pays tribute to the prestigious legacy and timeless collegiate style of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). For nearly 60 years, Ralph Lauren has been discerning the American way of life and its essence, telling stories of family, tradition, joy and hope from the mountains of the American West to the beaches of New England to the historic halls of college campuses. As part of Ralph Lauren’s “Design with Intent” initiative, the collection pays serious attention to tradition and reflects the diverse aspects of American life that inspire and aspire to Ralph Lauren. Following the “Ralph’s Hamptons” campaign, the “Polo Ralph Lauren for Oak Bluffs” collection is Ralph Lauren’s summer story, fusing classic seaside leisurewear with details that reflect the unique heritage of Oak Bluffs and off-campus college style through the lens of Morehouse College and Spelman College. The collection was created by Ralph Lauren’s current Morehouse and Spelman College alumni. It captures the island style of longtime residents and vacationers who add college baseball caps and sea-swept crewnecks to their summer wardrobes. “Ralph Lauren is chairman and chief creative officer, Ralph Lauren Corporation. “This collection is more than just a charming seaside town. It’s a story of the American Dream. Oak Bluffs’ unique history, traditions and community ties are deeply inspiring. They remind us of the place we all crave – a place where we can be ourselves, feel relaxed, joyful and truly belong.” Men’s and women’s styles include twill jackets adorned with innovative embroidery of the island’s iconic landscapes and motifs. Classic sport caps in crisp white, red and navy complement the collection’s nautical theme, while marine stripes and embroidered details scattered throughout the collection are inspired by long-standing Oak Bluffs pastimes, like leisurely bike rides down Sea View Avenue and “Five to Sevens,” a social gathering on front porches before the sun goes down. Each Morehouse and Spelman piece represents a place from the university library to the shores of Oak Bluffs, bringing a seaside vibe to Ralph Lauren’s iconic collegiate style while respecting the fashion traditions of both schools. The full collection features sun-faded knitwear, traditional patterned sweaters, sailing jackets, and accessories that reflect the style that Oak Bluffs residents and vacationers have loved for generations. Highlights include a maroon and white satin varsity jacket with a maroon tiger on the back, in honor of Morehouse, and an ivory and light blue patchwork cardigan that combines Spellman’s beloved Jaguar mascot with unique motifs that honor historic landmarks on the Spellman campus. Additionally, a patchwork quilted jacket and matching quilted blanket are among the pieces that speak to island life through design, with each patch paying homage to the town’s maritime heritage. The stories of Oak Bluffs come to life in a historic campaign created in collaboration with writer, director and producer Cole Brown, who drew on decades of memories of summers spent on Martha’s Vineyard for the project. The campaign was photographed by Nadine Ijewere and video footage was shot by Azaria Bjorvig. The collaboration follows the award-winning 2022 Polo Ralph Lauren campaign for Morehouse College and Spelman College. The documentary will center around a short documentary that blends scenic campaign footage with rare archival footage to tell the stories of life on the island from seasonal visitors, year-round residents, multigenerational homeowners, local business owners, local historians, Morehouse College and Spelman College faculty, staff, students and alumni. The full documentary, “Portrait of the American Dream: Oak Bluffs,” will be available on YouTube on July 24, 2025. On August 8, 2025, the Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival will host a special screening and panel discussion on the power of storytelling to mitigate and transform racial tensions. The screening was made possible in partnership with the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, which believes that every child should have an equal opportunity to grow. The Polo Ralph Lauren for Oak Bluffs collection will be available in limited quantities worldwide from July 24, 2025 on RalphLauren.com, the Ralph Lauren app, the Follett Campus Bookstores at Morehouse College and Spelman College, and in select Ralph Lauren stores. In Japan, from Friday, July 25, 2025, it will be sold at Ralph Lauren Omotesando, THE POLO WOMEN’S SHOP, the official online store (
https://www.ralphlauren.co.jp/), and some department stores. *Products available at each store may vary. Ralph Lauren is partnering with The Cottagers, Inc., a nonprofit organization of 100 Black women homeowners on Martha’s Vineyard, to help the organization restore historic architecture, preserve culture, and build community resilience on the island. Ralph Lauren worked closely with a variety of stakeholders, including The Cottagers, Inc., the Martha’s Vineyard African American Heritage Trail, Martha’s Vineyard Museum, and advisors from Morehouse College and Spelman College, to collect archival footage and historical materials essential to telling the story of Oak Bluffs. As part of these efforts, Ralph Lauren is proud to continue its longstanding partnership with the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) to support scholarships for students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), fostering job creation and early career development opportunities between the company and HBCUs.
