YAMATO Lab., a project by Yamato Co., Ltd., will hold its first pop-up event at The Stage on the first floor of the Isetan Shinjuku Men’s Building for seven days from Wednesday, August 6th to Tuesday, August 12th, 2025.

Launched in the fall of 2023, the project welcomed Keisuke Kanda, designer of “keisuke kanda,” as creative director. To date, we have developed products such as “Yado Tsunagi,” which connects yukatas worn at hot spring resorts and accommodations across the country into new products, and “Sukajan Kimono,” which combines the Japanese souvenir jacket “Sukajan” with a kimono. We explore and communicate the appeal and potential of Japanese culture from a unique perspective. This first-ever event at Isetan Shinjuku will introduce the activities of YAMATO Lab., exhibit and sell previously released items, and will also release special commemorative items. From the “Sukajan Kimono” series, we will be releasing a jacket featuring a patchwork-like vintage kimono with a “yokofuri” embroidery technique depicting the Shinjuku landscape, including the Isetan Shinjuku store, and a bowling shirt remade from a vintage kimono with embroidery. In addition, from the “Yado Tsunagi” series, we will be releasing shorts, furoshiki wrapping cloths, and drawstring bags perfect for the height of summer. A demonstration of horizontal embroidery will be held on the first day, Wednesday the 6th, from 6:30 PM. This will be a rare opportunity to see the limited edition Shinjuku pattern being embroidered up close. Additionally, customers who spend over 30,000 yen (tax included) will receive an original fan commemorating the event. Please take this opportunity to see the activities of “YAMATO Lab.”, which continues to take on challenges backed by a 109-year history since its founding. Inspired by the “Hyakutoku Kimono,” a traditional kimono sewn together from scraps of fabric, in hopes of a child’s healthy growth, this special series features jackets made from patchwork-style vintage kimonos and featuring original embroidery. The back features a horizontally embroidered design depicting Shinjuku scenery, including shrines, gardens, and cherry blossoms, including the Isetan Shinjuku store. These special items, created by the techniques of Japanese craftsmen, are available exclusively at Isetan Shinjuku. *Uramasari is a kimono culture that enjoys fashion by using a lining that is more luxurious than the front. Born from the prohibition of luxury in the Edo period, it is considered a uniquely Japanese aesthetic that incorporates a sense of beauty into the invisible parts.
