transformation projects on Sudo Ayano’s Instagram and elsewhere, so I was really happy when I heard about this project. It felt strange to be shooting with Kimijima-kun like this even though we’re not releasing a song, and when I saw the finished photos, I thought, “Wow, people are really expecting a new song that doesn’t exist!” I was really impressed when I troubled the hair and makeup artist while he was doing my makeup, saying, “Yukkyun, you have such a beautiful face, so you end up looking elegant…” It was a real shock to realize that visual kei isn’t just about being elegant. Kimijima-kun’s posing and behavior during the shoot were perfect and entertaining. Thank you for the valuable experience.

I love the printed word, and I’ve had a particular affinity for fantasy literature and similar science fiction novels. I was an avid reader of Shibusawa Tatsuhiko, Nakai Hideo, Kyogoku Natsuhiko, non-detective works by Edogawa Ranpo, Jorge Luis Borges, and HP Lovecraft. Looking back, I think that was the gateway to the atmospheric tastes that still run through me today, and the emotions stirred by the indescribable images and motifs that emerge in those works, detached from known time and space, feel vividly ingrained in me. Thanks to Mana’s Moi-meme-Moitie project, I feel as though my childhood dreams have been fulfilled in an unexpected way. Thank you, though I’m embarrassed to say. And above all, having my photo taken with my friend and private superstar Yukkyun, and by Sudo Ayano, who previously photographed me with Yukkyun, made it an even more precious and cherished memory. I’m not an expert on the visual kei genre, but I’d like to use this opportunity to learn more about it. I hope that this will be an opportunity for readers who read it to open the door to a different world.

When I heard about it, I suddenly thought, “This could be the birth of a fictional band.” Moreover, looking at the breadth of their activities and expression, I felt a strong sense of individuality that didn’t fit into any existing category. So, my imagination expanded to include the decadent, flashy artist photos from the days when the term “visual kei” was still vague. A little crazy, yet somehow
aesthetically pleasing. I thought that balance was just right. I received a request: “If it’s a band setting, I want Mana to hold my guitar,” so I actually went to the studio with my guitar. I think this was the first time I lent my guitar for a shoot. Gothic Lolita is often thought of as something for girls, but to me, it transcends the boundaries of gender and age and is like a way to unleash my inner beauty. I see it as a form of free expression that allows anyone to tap into their own inner aesthetic. I’d be thrilled if this
transformation inspired people to transform themselves in a way that made them want to do the same.
