Sakata Orimono Co., Ltd. Press Release: August 2, 2025 First time held! Spinning – YUAN: Kurume Kasuri Archive Exhibition by Students of Koran Fashion Design College August 7th – August 17th: A 10-day event where the traditional craft of Kurume Kasuri meets the creativity of students. There will be an exhibition of past student works and an outlet sale of one-of-a-kind items. In recent years, the fashion industry has faced issues such as
overproduction, mass waste, and the decline of local culture due to globalization. At the same time, traditional crafts across Japan are also facing major turning points due to a lack of successors and a shrinking market. In this context, the exhibition “Spinning – YUAN” will be held at Sakata Gallery, a Sakata Textiles gallery in Hirokawa Town, Fukuoka Prefecture, as a place where “fabric” and “education” intersect. The exhibition will run from Thursday, August 7th to Sunday, August 17th, 2025. This exhibition is part of an
industry-academia collaboration between Koran Fashion Design College, Fashion Design Department and Kurume Kasuri weaver Sakata Orimono. It will feature an archive display of Kurume Kasuri pieces created by students to date.

What will be born when the traditional fabric of Kurume Kasuri comes into contact with the sensibilities of today’s young people? This exhibition will weave small proposals for the future of fashion based on the themes of “tradition x creativity,” “region x education,” and “materials x sustainability.” In addition, during the exhibition, there will be an outlet sale of works created by students to date. Each piece is one-of-a-kind, and this is positioned as a sustainable initiative that avoids waste of materials.
