Challenge to reduce leather loss Cowhide leather is produced as a byproduct of the meat industry, but the current situation is that large amounts of leather are discarded during the processing and manufacturing process. Approximately 45% of the leather is unnecessary during the tanning process, and an additional 30-50% during the product processing stage, resulting in over 60% of the leather being discarded without being used.
