Hey!Babu is a baby carrier designed five years ago by Rikako Matsumura (38), a mother who lives in Gifu Prefecture and is raising a child.It was born with the aim of overturning the stereotype of “putting up with it because you’re a mother” and realizing fashion, comfort, and happy childcare at the same time. The SG (Safety Goods) certification that we have recently acquired is one of the strictest safety standards in Japan. We had to pass rigorous tests, high costs, and specialized standards that are difficult even for major companies, and it was almost unheard of for a personal brand to obtain this
certification.However, we took on the challenge with the desire to create a baby carrier that is both fashionable and safe, and after several examinations lasting about six months, we achieved SG certification. With my amateur design drawings, I passionately conveyed my desire to “deliver happy childcare to mothers,” but I couldn’t find a place that would make them, and just as I was about to give up, I came across a company that makes custom-made clothes. She was also a mother of one child and had great skills in sewing sling-type baby carriers and clothes. “I really sympathize with your thoughts. Let’s make it together!” He happily offered to cooperate, and prototype production began immediately. When creating the prototype, I received several suggestions from paper patterns, and based on my own experience with baby carriers, I worked repeatedly to incorporate the functionality and design that I thought were “absolutely
non-negotiable.” It took about half a year to complete the current form of “Hey!Babu”.
