The Maison’s signature calendar display is modernized with an expressive style, featuring elegant traditional materials, a classically sophisticated case size, and exceptional quality certified by the Geneva Seal. The beauty of biretrograde Roger Dubuis was a passionate watchmaker whose expressive design and approach set him apart. Its originality is clearly reflected in the biretrograde display, to which Mr. Dubuis had a special attachment. Throughout his illustrious career, it was a design that captured not only his creativity but also his sensibility, as it allowed him to highlight the unique mechanisms of his
timepieces. In the late 1980s, Mr. Dubuis, along with the brilliant watchmaker Jean-Marc Vidaleche, evolved, simplified, and modernized the retrograde system. He used the patent when he founded his eponymous house in 1995. This patent was incorporated as a
biretrograde display on the dial of the Maison’s first timepieces. Combined with a chronograph, it has become a style that emphasizes expressive power.

The new Excalibur Monobalancier Bi-Retrograde Calendar displays the current date and time with beautifully angular skeletonized hands, allowing you to admire the graceful movement of its finely tailored components. Ascension of legendary pieces Its sleek 40mm size follows the typical dimensions of models produced by Roger Dubuis in the 1990s. The thin case is made of 18K pink gold, and the dial is made of white mother-of-pearl. Roger Dubuis was one of the first manufacturers to use pink gold and mother-of-pearl in men’s watches in the early 2000s, and these materials therefore have a special significance as they embody the Maison’s technical sophistication and innovation.

Classical and elegant style The Maison’s signature approach to bi-retrograde display is clearly evident in the design of the 2025 model. Like the model released in 1996, the scale narrows from the outside toward the center, creating expressive curves and a unique ellipsis. The details borrowed from the Maison’s design heritage don’t stop there. Other distinctive features also derive from Roger Dubuis’ traditional design. The dial has the same symmetrical design as the 1996 model, with bi-retrograde scales arranged in a well-balanced manner on the left and right sides. The small seconds counter at 6 o’clock is also aligned with the engraving at 12 o’clock. The engraving at 12 o’clock features the words “BIRETROGRADE CALENDAR” in the Maison’s traditional typeface and the Geneva Seal emblem, following the same style as the Muchmore Biretrograde Calendar, a model introduced in the early 2000s. This detail is also a subtle homage to the Maison’s 30th anniversary. Caliber and back cover The beautiful exterior of the Excalibur Monobalancier Bi-Retrograde Calendar is supported by the caliber RD840. This automatic movement has a power reserve of approximately 60 hours, and the sapphire crystal case back reveals the attractive rotor. It follows the style of the first rotor created by the Maison in 1996, but has been updated with a more contemporary design. Once again, you can admire the inner workings and appreciate the meticulous attention to detail of the Geneva Seal-certified Maison. For Roger Dubuis, the Geneva Seal was a philosophy in itself. More than just a time indicator, it is an indicator of a philosophy and approach to watchmaking, a theory of design and performance that measures the quality of craftsmanship at its deepest level. To meet the strict quality standards of the Geneva Seal, all parts of Caliber RD840 are hand-decorated and polished to ensure a flawless finish.
