Since its inception at 30 Montaigne, this ever-renewing sacred bond has continued to beat like the essence of inspiration and celebrate original creation. Resonating with this unconditional love, Dior has created the KYOTOGRAPHIE exhibition, which will be held from April 12th to May 11th, 2025. As part of the Kyoto International Photography Festival, we will support Graciela Iturbide’s first large-scale solo exhibition in Japan. Born in Mexico in 1942, Graciela Iturbide studied film at the Center for Film Studies at the National Autonomous University of Mexico in 1969, where she was influenced by acclaimed Mexican photographer Manuel Álvarez Bravo. She is also widely known for her black and white photographs of communities in her native Mexico. The photo book “Juchitan de las” published in 1989 Mujeres’ began her lifelong commitment to supporting feminism. In recent years, the House of Dior has collaborated with Manuel Álvarez Bravo, fascinated by the sand people, the Zapotec women, and the Muxes, who share traditions, rituals, and folk festivals that pulsate with the strength of Mexico’s indigenous communities. Her striking visual features include a photo reportage of Oaxaca shot for the Dior Cruise 2018 collection, and a creative for the Dior women’s collection. This can be seen most clearly in his collaborations with director Maria Grazia Chiuri. These images were published in the commemorative issue of Her Dior (2021), and in 2023, the 2024 Cruise show in Mexico led Graciela to shoot a series of portraits that appeared on the cover and pages of VOGUE Mexico, as well as other publications and magazines. The Graciela Iturbide exhibition to be held at the KYOTOGRAPHIE Kyoto International Photography Festival is her first retrospective in Japan.
