nanoparticles/metal nanoink to decorate watch dials From June 10, 2025, Epson Sales Co., Ltd. will release a new model of the M34 F8 Date from the Orient Star contemporary collection M34, featuring an original dial with the design theme of the Perseid meteor shower and a high-performance movement equipped with a silicon escape wheel. There are two limited edition models with black dials (limited to 80 in Japan, 20 exclusive to the official online store) that utilize the world’s first (Note 1) “metal nanoparticle lamination technology” in wristwatches, and one regular model with a new green dial. For the first time in the world, technology used in the electronics field was applied to watchmaking (Note 3), creating a dial that is extremely delicate, sophisticated, and has a sense of depth. In addition, the hands, abbreviations, and the diamond-cut date window frame, which are divided into lines and mirror finishes, add a sharp shine to the black background, giving the face a sense of dynamism along with the expression of a meteor shower. The green dial of the regular model utilizes optical multilayer film technology to create a delicate stamped pattern inspired by the Perseid meteor shower, similar to the blue dial of the previous model, and features a design that
beautifully changes colors and patterns depending on the viewing angle. Our in-house developed optical multilayer film technology, which creates various tonal effects on metal plates, controls the reflection and transmission of light by layering nano-level, almost transparent films, making it possible to express the deep world of space that is not possible with ordinary painted dials. These dials are made at the “Dial Board Workshop” of the “Toki no Takumi Kobo” based in Shiojiri, Shinshu. We possess a variety of manufacturing processes, including surface processing, lettering, printing, plating, and needle processing, and use the high quality and precise expression techniques required for luxury products to create Orient Star’s unique dials. Advanced technology is demonstrated not only in the color of the dial, but also in the latest movement. The in-house caliber F8N64 installed in the M34 F8 Date uses a silicon escape wheel, which is considered Orient Star’s technical signature, and achieves stable high precision with a daily variation of 15 seconds to -5 seconds and a power reserve of over 60 hours with automatic winding. What’s more, the movement is visible through the sapphire crystal see-through back, and the wavy-patterned rotating weight is chamfered to give it a beautiful shine. The pursuit of high quality is also evident in the dial and movement, with SAR coating on both spherical sapphire crystals (non-reflective on both sides), a sharp and strong 40mm diameter case inspired by the hero Perseus, stainless steel (SUS316L) used for the elegant metal band that fits comfortably on your wrist, and 10 ATM water resistance. The M34 F8 Date not only has a unique aesthetic and high quality, but also has excellent practicality, making it an extremely attractive basic watch suitable for everyday use.
